So, obviously I like books.
Books with two men (or sometimes more).
You know what I mean. ;)
3.5 stars
Nachos on Saturday by J. Leigh Bailey – 2.5 stars: Eating some nachos, sex and wallowing in self-pity.
Full Circle by Rhidian Brenig Jones – 3.75 stars: So bittersweet – really liked it!
Hunting Season by AC Valentine – 3.25 stars: Really liked Carson and how oblivious he was.
Ivory Black, Flecked with White by Laylah Hunter – 3.25 stars: Although it was a short story, I could get a glimpse of the deep love the two MC’s felt for each other.
Loving Again by John Inman – 2.75 stars: Sad but with a happy ending (but maybe a little too soon?)
Curtain Calls by Pinkie Rae Parker – 3.5 stars: An “old” beast actor and his young rival. Drama!
Straight Shooting by Maggie Lee – 3.5 stars: I actually liked this one a lot. Would have been perfect with shorter sex scenes.
Picture This by Dottie Stratton & Linda James – 3.5 stars: Really liked the beginning. The ending (or the part where they became lovers) felt a bit rushed.
Hero Worship by Sam C. Leonhard – 4 stars: Rude young man seduces grumpy old wizard. Loved it!
The Way to a Fisherman's Heart by Tray Ellis – 4.25 stars: Liked this one a lot! (Even though I know nothing about fishing, but it had this calm feeling I really loved!)
The Bodyguard's Dilemma by Chris Scully – 4 stars: Sweet and really good! The ending was a little abrupt.
Queening Out by Mari Donne – 3.75 stars: A misunderstanding. And yes, Kevin is a little drama queen. ;)
No Place Like Home by Kim Fielding – 3.5 stars: Favorite scene: Joey opening the door without knocking… *g*
Waiting for the Light by Layla M. Wier – 3.75 stars: Ah damn… nearly cried. Loved the happy ending!
Granddad's Cup of Tea by Amy Rae Durreson – 4 stars: Loved the slow pace of the story.
3.75 stars.
Zombies!! Need I say more? ;)
Uhm, okay.
Half a Million Dead Cannibals is a little, action-packed story with two surprisingly tough guys, some fellow survivors who aren’t so friendly and a city full of zombies.
Riley – one of the friendlier survivors – is young, smart and doesn’t like to be called babe (not that this would matter to Graham). During the whole story, some of my favorite scenes were when he was alone and desperate to find his partner again. Err… and the scenes with Graham. *g* Graham, on the other hand, was and still is a little mystery to me. He’s hot, a leader type and he obviously likes Riley but I wanted to know more!
It was exciting to see how they would survive and for a “short” story I liked it exactly how it was (okay, maybe a little bit more drama and suspense? ;P). Of course I still have some questions but with a HFN and a little imagination on my part, I was totally satisfied.
3 - 4 stars.
To be honest, I’m not really sure how to rate this book.
It had lots of good ideas and likable characters but sometimes I wanted to know more. More about the cities, the Outside or all the other places. I wanted to know what exactly changed the world. What was this “Burst”? Or why is the government breaking high level talents? Just to see what they can do?
Then there’s the POV or rather the change of POV’s. It was easy to follow and I knew all the time who was talking but I would have liked it more if it weren’t changing so much.
Finally the romance part. For readers like me, who don’t want to read sex scene after sex scene, this book will be a pleasant surprise. The relationship between Patrick and Jac is more like a sub-plot and the talents and what’s happening to them or Patrick’s realization, that the world isn’t just black and white, the main plot – what I really really liked!
So, yes some niggles but I still enjoyed it.
4 – 4.5 stars.
It started a bit slow but somewhere along the first chapters (there’s this one heartbreaking scene on the beach where Johnny remembers… ah, you need to read it yourself! *g*) I fell in love with Johnny and the rest. I could easily picture them all in Anwell-by-Sea, in Ed’s house or in the café and I really liked how Johnny finally found a reason to change his life or the slow development of his first real relationship with a man.
For me one of the better and more realistic contemporary stories I read this year, even though there were one or two eye-rolling moments.
Oh! And the last sex scene? Hot!
3.75 stars.
Normally I don’t read many shifter stories – even though I love them – because most of the time they are a disappointment for me. Not so Taming the Bander! Here you won’t find jealous alpha males and their shy and helpless mates. Instead you get Jake, a sometimes growling bander (and not a really talkative one) and Vaughn, the complete opposite of him.
Although it was a great book, I liked the first half a little bit more than the second. Maybe because the “showdown” wasn’t as exciting as I hoped it would be or because I wanted to know a little bit more about Jake and Vaughn. Still, I really enjoyed it!
