Nova

So, obviously I like books.

Books with two men (or sometimes more).

You know what I mean. ;)

Rorschach Blots - RoughDraftHero, R.D. Hero 3.75 stars.

Not without flaws but I really liked it!
A Life Apart - Roger Kean

3.5 stars.

A Life Apart is more than a simple romance between two young men. It’s a story about love, friendship, treachery, years of longing and war. It’s a story with interesting and memorable characters, some I loved and some I didn’t. It’s a story which takes you on a journey where you finally – after lots of ups and downs – get your happy ending.

So why only 3.5 stars? Because at first it took me a while to get into the book. There were parts I found a little bit boring and they couldn’t hold my attention. Other parts were so gripping and exciting I couldn’t stop reading. But this is just my personal opinion. :)

If you like historical novels and men in love mixed with a good story, then A Life Apart might be the right book for you.

Prisoner (Kria, #1) - Megan Derr What a book!
I’m going to miss Sol, Iah, Beraht and Dieter. Especially Dieter! Most of the time he’s a bastard but he’s also impressive, proud, intelligent and strong. Dieter and Beraht “bickering” were some of the best scenes in the book. ;) And the rest? Intriguing and gripping. Loved it!
Wanderlust: A Travel Anthology (T. Spoon Anthologies, #3) - Ais, Ania, Berthablue, Blue GhostGhost, Coz, Dusk Peterson, G, Jaolynn, Lucy Kemnitzer, ManicDak, Medeni, Xythe Twistvoid Charlie’s Angel and the Borderland Blues by Blue GhostGhost – 3.75 stars
Nifty Shades of Grey by Ania – 2.75 stars
Hitchhiker by Berthablue – 2.5 stars
What Remains by Jaolynn -
City Mouse - Amy Lane, Aleksandr Voinov Oh oh… mein erster Gedanke zum Cover: Der Typ auf der oberen Hälfte erinnert mich… an unsere Frau Merkel… *rofl*
SPOILER ALERT!
He Speaks Dead - Adrienne Wilder

4.5 stars.

Love between a ghost and a human? This can’t be easy – and it isn’t. Even so, Ethan and Charlie are happy with what they have, until they meet Briggs. For the first time in years Charlie is attracted to someone who’s living and Ethan, who knows exactly how dangerous he can be for Charlie, has two options: Giving Charlie up or staying with him. And as if that weren’t enough, there’s another, darker problem they need to solve…

I immediately liked Ethan, who’s telling the story. His love for Charlie, his sense of humor and his reluctance to leave his lover made him almost real, even though he’s a ghost. The same goes for Charlie, his past and his special talent. He may like Briggs a little bit more than he wants, but he’s sure he will never stop loving Ethan. And Briggs? God, I liked him too! Big bad cop who doesn’t believe in ghosts. Perfect!

For the most part of the book I wondered how it would end. Would Charlie stay with Ethan? Would he really fall in love with Briggs? Would all three of them…? **Spoiler** Although I had a feeling something bad would happen I was still shocked and yes, I cried a little bit. I’m still not sure whether I should like it or not but it’s definitely an ending I won’t forget. **Spoiler end**

Besides the romance, there’s also a mystery part (and a good one), action, suspense, more ghosts and some darker things. Exactly what I like!

Truth in the Dark - Amy Lane 2.5 stars.
From the Inside Out - Talya Andor A beautiful and sweet (in a really good way!) story about first love and coming out. But the book needs some editing – and not because it was too long.

Other than that I fully agree with Anke's review (spoiler!). :)
Midnight in Berlin - J.L. Merrow

2.5 stars.

I was in the mood for some werewolf-action and since I loved the last two books I’ve read by J.L. Merrow (Muscling Through and Pressure Head), I thought Midnight in Berlin would be the right one for me…

I don’t know why, but I couldn’t get into the story. Maybe it was because of Leon - I didn’t really like him and his sense of humor. Or because of Christoph… Or it was the lack of romance. Or maybe the story itself? I don’t know.

What I liked was the setting.

The Flesh Cartel #3: Choices (The Flesh Cartel Season 2: Fragmentation) - Heidi Belleau, Rachel Haimowitz 4.25 stars.
The Flesh Cartel #2: Auction (The Flesh Cartel Season 1: Damnation) - Rachel Haimowitz, Heidi Belleau 3.75 stars.
The Starving Years - Jordan Castillo Price 4.5 stars.

Every time I read a book by JCP, it’s like I read something completely new in our genre, something that is so creative and extraordinary and special that I can’t help but be impressed. Needless to say I felt the same way with “The Starving Years”. Absolutely stunning and engrossing! I only wished I could have read a little bit more about Nelson, Tim and Javier - especially about their relationship.
Brute - Kim Fielding 2.75 stars.

This could have been a really great book for me – if it were shorter. Reading how Brute feeds his prisoner or about his mother again and again? Not really exciting.
There were parts I really, really liked! But some parts were too repetitive and boring for me.
Speechless - Kim Fielding

3.5 stars.

Crossing Borders - Z. A. Maxfield Good start but went downhill fast.
It was also a little bit too corny and sweet for me. :(
From Out in the Cold - L.A. Witt I knew that From Out in the Cold wouldn’t be an easy read, but it was more than that: It was frustrating, depressing, emotional and full of angst. Jeremy and Neil both have experienced cruel things they don’t want to speak about and when they finally do… *sighs*
Definitely not a funny or light book. To be honest, it was a little too depressing most of the time. Sure, with the last chapters I got my happy ending, but I wouldn’t want to read it again.
I’m not saying it was a bad book – I really enjoyed some parts! - just not the perfect book for me. :)
